MATERIAL KNOWLEDGE
What is R Black Granite?
An abbreviated commercial name for a dark granite selection. The initials do not reliably establish the quarry, geology, treatment or exact appearance; the supplier must expand the material identification.
Colour, pattern and room planning
For a dark floor or counter, inspect both overall blackness and the visible mineral grain. A textured or honed finish can change the perceived shade, so compare actual finish samples rather than unrelated black photographs.
Fabrication and layout decisions
Record the complete supplier name, origin and approved sample reference. Confirm edge colour and any declared enhancement before fabrication, particularly when the face and exposed edges are both prominent.
Compare R Black with Absolute Black
Keep the full material identification with the purchase specification. Compare the actual samples with Absolute Black Granite under the same light, and ask whether shade, mineral scale, direction or maintenance is the deciding factor.
Finishes, dimensions and the actual offer
Polished concepts help discuss reflectivity and colour, but the proposed finish must be approved on a real sample. Honed or textured alternatives, where suitable, can change both appearance and cleaning behaviour. A finish label alone is not evidence of wet-slip performance.
Ask for the measured usable length and width, actual thickness and tolerances for the offered slabs. The required thickness follows the support, cut-outs, piece size, transport and installation design; an illustration does not establish a stock format. Agree how repairs, resin, mesh or colour enhancement will be declared.
Care and everyday use
Use a neutral stone cleaner, remove spills promptly and protect the surface from abrasive grit. Use trivets under hot cookware. Whether an impregnating treatment is needed depends on the actual stone, finish and use; treatment does not make stone stain-proof. Follow the selected treatment manufacturer’s instructions rather than a universal yearly sealing rule.
