MATERIAL KNOWLEDGE
What is Black Galaxy Granite?
A dark natural-stone trade selection recognised by small reflective gold or pale mineral flecks. The balance between the black ground and the flecks determines how busy a countertop or floor will appear.
Colour, pattern and room planning
For a kitchen, compare the fleck density with the scale of the room and cabinet finish. A tightly detailed slab can give a controlled sparkle under daylight; excessive spot lighting can make the same stone look much busier.
Fabrication and layout decisions
Approve the fleck size at full-slab scale. Align visible edges and agree the seam position where two areas of fleck density meet; a render cannot predict this transition.
Compare Black Galaxy with Absolute Black
Small reflective flecks distinguish it from a near-solid black selection. Compare the actual samples with Absolute Black Granite under the same light, and ask whether shade, mineral scale, direction or maintenance is the deciding factor.
Finishes, dimensions and the actual offer
Polished concepts help discuss reflectivity and colour, but the proposed finish must be approved on a real sample. Honed or textured alternatives, where suitable, can change both appearance and cleaning behaviour. A finish label alone is not evidence of wet-slip performance.
Ask for the measured usable length and width, actual thickness and tolerances for the offered slabs. The required thickness follows the support, cut-outs, piece size, transport and installation design; an illustration does not establish a stock format. Agree how repairs, resin, mesh or colour enhancement will be declared.
Care and everyday use
Use a neutral stone cleaner, remove spills promptly and protect the surface from abrasive grit. Use trivets under hot cookware. Whether an impregnating treatment is needed depends on the actual stone, finish and use; treatment does not make stone stain-proof. Follow the selected treatment manufacturer’s instructions rather than a universal yearly sealing rule.
