Granite vs Marble for Kitchen Countertops
Choose for cooking habits as well as appearance.
Acid response matters
Many commercial granites tolerate kitchen acids better than calcitic marble, but mineral composition and treatments vary. Marble can develop etch marks from acidic foods; an impregnating sealer does not prevent this chemical change.
Heat and everyday use
Use trivets for all countertop materials. Check edge strength, cut-outs, joints and support with the fabricator; a stone’s reputation does not replace a sound fabrication design.
Make the decision on a sample
Ask for a sample of the actual selection and discuss staining, cleaning, repair and appearance expectations. Approve the full slab and cut layout before ordering.
